Two firms are among best for internship

Two companies have been praised for the way they use internships to identify talent.

Luton-based Vauxhall Motors and TUI UK & Ireland have been shortlisted in the National Council for Work Experience (NCWE) 2013 Awards.

TUI UK & Ireland, in Wigmore Lane, will compete in the category for large organisations offering long-term placements for fewer than 20 students. It is also up for the Best of the Best, which celebrates 10 years of work experience excellence. TUI is also a category sponsor.

Victoria Manning heads up the placement scheme at TUI UK & Ireland. She the company is “incredibly proud” of its placement scheme and the opportunities it offers undergraduates.

She said: “The aim of the scheme is to nurture talented individuals who bring a variety of skills to our organisation and who we hope will consider joining us in graduate roles in the future.”

The NCWE Awards are in their 10th year and they have become widely recognised as the most prestigious in their category, encouraging and rewarding UK employers who provide valuable internships to students and graduates.

Vauxhall Motors is a finalist in the category for large organisations offering long term placements for more than 20 students.

Phil Millward, Vauxhall’s UK & Ireland HR director said: “Many young people who have the necessary skills don’t see their future lying in manufacturing and engineering. Our undergraduate programme helps highlight the dynamic and rewarding careers that are widely available within the industry.”

The shortlist has been drawn up from hundreds of entries. Shortlisted entries will be reviewed by a high profile panel. Winners will be announced on March 19.
