The series, created by The Angel Studio, includes ‘Our Year Since Dad died’ and ‘Our Year Since Grandma Died.’ They address issues faced by young children who’ve lost a parent or grandparent.

The DVDs will be available as a free resource to schools, medical professionals, community groups and bereaved families.

The series was a joint initiative from CHUMS – the Child Bereavement, Trauma and Emotional Wellbeing Service – and The Co-operative Funeralcare.

More than 41,000 children suffer the loss of a parent each year. The death of a grandparent is often a youngster’s first experience of bereavement and more than 309,000, aged between five and 16, face a loss of some sort – a sibling, family member or close friend.

TCF spokesman David Collingwood said: “It’s important we have the tools and the guidance to help and support these young people.”
