Chiltern School Cookathon

All pupils in Years 5 to 14 from the Chiltern Area Special School in Houghton Regis and Dunstable had a fantastic day designing and cooking pizza.

They joined the Big Cookathon challenge led by the Children’s Food Trust to win a share of a £5,500 prize.

The event encourages schools and clubs from all over the UK to make a dish from scratch using fresh ingredients. The aim was to get as many people as possible cooking the same healthy meal on the same day.

Chiltern School’s event was held at the Houghton Regis campus in Parkside Drive, but children from the primary school site Beech Road, Dunstable, also took up the challenge.

A number of parents joined their child for the day to make a nutritious meal from everyday ingredients.

Headteacher Shirley Crosbie said: “We had a lovely day and I will definitely do this at home now.”

Rebecca Fitzgerald, one of the students who assisted as ‘sous chef’ for the event, said: “We all had fun while making our pizzas.”

Rebecca’s mum, who was one of many parents who took part, said: “It was lovely to see the children enjoying themselves making pizza together. We have also enjoyed the recipe at home.”
