A student is crowdfunding to raise her tuition to undertake a PhD at the Royal Holloway University of London.

Lutomi Idowu Kassim, of Watling Street, Dunstable is trying to raise £21,000 for her PhD in the cultural and political constructs surrounding urban dance choreography and theatre.

The former University of Bedfordshire student turned to crowdfunding after witnessing a fellow student use it to cover their fees.

She said: “I have had some funding from the university but it is not enough, a lot of students are fundraising this way.

“I need to cover various costs whilst devoting my entire time to studying rather than teaching, that is how I usually earn my living.

“I would like people to make a contribution because they would be facilitating vital research into an area of social and cultural and political art and inclusivity, not previously explored.”

The money she hopes to raise is the combined total of three years’ fees and travel costs, research material, research related international travel costs and some professional services.
