Coronavirus latest: 93 new cases confirmed in Luton today

93 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Luton over the past 24 hours, according to figures from Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough now stands at 3,292 (+93)

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 2,330 (+42) cases, while Bedford's figure stands at 2,331 (+21).

There have been 989,745 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by 24,405 in the past 24 hours.

46,229 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive test, with a large daily rise of 274 deaths since yesterday.

It was announced yesterday (Thursday) that Luton will move into "high alert level" Tier-2 of the government's coronavirus restrictions.

The new restrictions will come into effect at 12.01am on Saturday, October 31.

> In any indoor setting, whether at home or a public place, people MUST NOT meet with anyone they don’t live with (unless they are part of a support bubble or essential carers);

> If outdoors, whether in a garden or public outdoor space, people MUST NOT meet with people they don’t live with in groups of more than 6;

> These rules are all enforceable by law and must be followed at all times;

> People should also limit the number of journeys they make away from home;

> If people need to travel they should walk or cycle where possible, or plan ahead to avoid busy times and routes on public transport;

> People can continue to go to places of worship and facilities such as leisure centres and libraries are still open, where they are Covid-secure.
