Coronavirus latest: 94 new cases confirmed in Luton

94 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Luton yesterday (Sunday), according to figures from Public Health England.

The total number of cases in the borough stands at 6,367 (+94).

The case rate in Luton is currently 268.9 per 100,000.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 3,861 (+69) cases while Bedford's figure is at 3,480 (+36).

There have been 1,723,242 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by a daily rise of 17,272.

61,245 deaths have been recorded within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, with 231 added to that figure.

Luton entered tier two (high alert) restrictions along with the rest of Bedfordshire after lockdown ended on Wednesday, December 2.

According to government advice, in tier two:

> You must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting;

> You must not socialise in a group of more than six people outside, including in a garden or a public space – this is called the ‘rule of 6’;

> Businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a Covid-secure manner, other than those which remain closed by law, such as nightclubs;

> Pubs and bars must close, unless operating as restaurants. Hospitality venues can only serve alcohol with substantial meals;

> Hospitality businesses selling food or drink are required to provide table service only and stop taking orders after 10pm;

> Places of worship remain open but you must not socialise with people from outside of your household or support bubble.
