Coronavirus latest: Eight new cases confirmed in Luton

Eight new instances of coronavirus have been confirmed in Luton today (Tuesday), according to Public Health England.

The total number of infections in the borough now stands at 1,448 (+8).

It follows a spate of 50 new cases between Saturday and Monday.

NHS England figures show 282 people have died at the L&D Hospital over the course of the pandemic, with two deaths reported over the weekend.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire has 1,234 (+0) cases while Bedford's figure stands at 1,275 (+2).

Across the country, there have been 291,373 infections at an increase of 398 over the past 24 hours.

44,968people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 138 since yesterday.
