Four new cases of coronavirus have emerged in Luton over the past 24 hours, according to Public Health England.

The total number of infections in the borough now stands at 1,388 (+4).

Previous data shared by Public Health England relied solely on Pillar 1 (testing from Public Health England and NHS Hospital Trusts), but as of Thursday the information includes Pillar 2 (non-clinical and commercial testing).

The first coronavirus deaths in five days have been recorded at Luton and Dunstable Hospital Trust, the latest figures show.

NHS England figures show 280 people had died in hospital at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Wednesday, July 8.

Elsewhere in the county, Central Bedfordshire stands has 1,224 (+1) cases while Bedford's figure have been revised down by one to 1,267.

Across the country, there have been 287,621 infections at an increase of 642 over the past 24 hours.

44,602 people have died with coronavirus in the UK, up by 85 since yesterday.
