Danger to public after used gloves and face masks dumped on Luton street

The public has been warned to dispose of personal protective equipment (PPE) sensibly after several items were dumped in the street in Luton

The discarded equipment poses a threat to both the general public and council litter crews forced to collect the items.

It follows a series of incidents around the country where people have dumped used PPE at the roadside.

A Luton Borough Council spokesman said: "There have been cases of disposable gloves and face masks being thrown away in the street.

"These may be contaminated with Covid-19 which poses a threat to people, including collection crews picking them up.

"Please dispose properly of used protective equipment safely."
