A 20-year-old man, from Luton, appeared in a Northampton court via video link after allegedly breaking the Covid-19 lockdown laws on a 40-mile drive to see a friend.

Christian Bobiica was charged with being out when he did not need to be after police stopped his VW Golf on the A45 in Northampton on Easter Sunday.

He is also accused of driving while disqualified and with no insurance, having an illegal tyre on the vehicle and obstructing police.

Northampton Magistrates bailed Bobiica to appear in court again in June.
