Holiday typhoid risk highlighted for travellers

ANYONE planning a holiday or Hajj to a developing country should make sure they are vaccinated against typhoid.

Council environmental health officers are launching a campaign to remind travellers of the very real risks of typhoid and paratyphoid infection, a blood and intestinal infection which causes fever, weakness and loss of appetite.

It is endemic in parts of south east Asia, south Asia, the Middle East, central and south America and Africa.

Vaccination is available on the NHS, from GPs and practice nurses. For more details call 01582 510330.
