Schoolboy '˜exceptionally lucky' to survive cardiac arrest in Luton pool

Cade Ewington, 11, was midway through a school swimming lesson at Lewsey Park on June 6 when he collapsed in the water.

After being dragged out of the pool Cade was given CPR and shocked with a defibrillator as the emergency services were called.

He was then rushed to the L&D, before being transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where he was given a implantable cardioverter defibrillator and put to sleep for two days.

Cade went on to make a full recovery and paid an emotional visit to Lewsey Swimming Pool yesterday, when he met teachers Tracy Foster, Katie Robinson and lifeguard Rebecca Findlay – the Active Luton staff who helped save his life.

His father Mark told the Herald & Post: “We are exceptionally lucky, with the exception of water it is probably the safest place it could have happened.

“The doctors think that it could have happened anywhere and if it had that could have been it. It was one of the unluckiest and luckiest days of our lives.”
