Luton now has 91 confirmed coronavirus cases while neighbouring Central Bedfordshire has 81.

Two patients, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s, died at Luton & Dunstable Hospital last week but there have no further disclosed deaths locally from the virus.

Currently, only hospital patients presenting with symptoms are tested, although the government is under pressure to increase testing to its promised figure of 10,000 a week.

Elsewhere in the county, Bedford has 60 confirmed cases and Milton Keynes has 117.

Birmingham has recorded the biggest growth of COVD-19 diagnoses in the last week, with 734 people affected - more than any other local authority in the country.

Greater Glasgow has the highest number in Scotland at 632, and Sheffield has the third highest number of cases among English cities at 541.

Elsewhere, London remains a key growth spot for the virus, with the highest numbers found in the boroughs of Brent (506), Southwark (474) and Lambeth (462).

Nationally, the number of coronavirus cases stands at 25,150, with 1,789 deaths confirmed by Public Health England.

NHS guidance remains to practice self isolation and keep two metres apart wherever possible when in public.

Currently, outdoor activities are prohibited except for food shopping, one daily exercise, treatment of a condition and any essential travel for work.
