Authentic attire attracts audiences for Grove stars

DID you see young starlets in Grove House Gardens in period costume on Thursday?

You might have thought the fashion trend was heading back a few eras but infact the budding actors and actresses posing on the lawn were the stars of this year’s Grove Theatre Summer Musical.

The talented teens also had authentic hairstyles thanks to stylists from Evolution @ Joseph’s Hair Salon – very glam.

But the whole exercise wasn’t just about looking the part. The youngsters were promoting The Likes Of Us, which takes to the Court Drive theatre stage next week.

Ellis Jenart, 17, plays one of the two Syries in the production and has been in every Grove Summer Musical Theatre production since it started back in 2007.

She said the cast “felt like a family” and it was nice to see familiar faces and catch up with everyone prior to the two weeks of intensive rehearsals, which only started on Saturday.

Jason Homewood takes the lead role of Doctor Thomas Barnardo in the production, which tells the true story of the philanthropist who founded homes for destitute children.

The 19-year-old has been full of praise for his co-stars but admits he is both “nervous and excited” for his own debut at the Grove.

But 18-year-old James Clark, who will play the Narrator, can’t wait for opening night. He said: “It is a momentous occasion to see my fellow cast members properly for the first time.”

If you can’t wait until curtain up, book tickets now. The show runs from Thursday, August 11, to Saturday, August 13.
