A stand-up show combining comedy, storytelling and bits of a Triumph Herald comes to Dunstable Library tomorrow (Thursday).

Artist Chris Dobrowolski has lovingly repaired his family Triumph Herald Estate so that he can drive it from his childhood home in Essex to Rome via Turin where this quintessentially English car was designed.

All Roads Lead to Rome is a personal exploration, looking in part into his father’s time as a Polish soldier in the Italian campaign during the Second World War, as well as the issue of consumerism.

The show brings together car mechanics, a road trip, dictators and the fetishisation of possessions in a solo performance using old photos, new film and surprising mechanical objects.

It is part of an ambitious art project commissioned by Central Bedfordshire Council’s libraries, with Bedford Creative Arts and funded by Arts Council England.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. This show is for over-14s only and contains strong language.

The organisers are inviting audience members to pay what they can afford after they have seen the show. They can donate an amount of their choosing up to £5.

To book, email [email protected] or call Dunstable Library on 0300 300 8056.

Other events are planned at the library in February and March. Call the library for more.
