Feel the power of the human spirit on stage

21 1918, during the run-up to the real-life events of a major offensive attack on the Germans. It involves a keen young officer who finds an old friend much changed, comrades who are attempting to create a sense of normality amid the horror, complaining about how the war has interfered with meal times and plotting escape.

The story is based on the author’s own experience in the trenches and celebrates humour, courage and the power of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Sherriff considered calling it Suspense and Waiting, but eventually found a title in the closing line of a chapter of an unidentified book: “It was late in the evening when we came at last to our journey’s end.”

Dunstable Rep spokeswoman Angela Goss said: “Journey’s End is an unflinching portrayal of men facing the unbearable but finding the camaraderie to keep on fighting.”
