It’s been a busy 12 months for Funmbi – he has appeared on The John Bishop Show (BBC One), The Blame Game (BBC NI), I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Here Now! (ITV2), and is a regular on Too Much TV (BBC Two).

Legal Immigrant is the story of a 10-year-old Hackney boy, leaving London for Lagos. It’s 1990, Funmbi loves his music and misses his friends. In his new home of Nigeria, the local kids find his British accent hilarious, and whilst UK culture is changing, all he really wants to know is what’s happening with Kylie and Jason.

At 16 he goes back to Hackney, and has to deal with his new fellow students’ misconceptions of Africa, as well as another culture clash: his musical taste has moved on to New Kids On the Block and Boyzone whilst his Hackney classmates are into Public Enemy.

Funmbi Omotayo’s friendly, style won him the award for Best Newcomer at the Black Entertainment Comedy Awards, as well as cementing himself as a headliner on the comedy circuit, regularly playing The Comedy Store, Glee and The Boat Show. He has appeared on Live At the Comedy Store on Comedy Central, and is also a trained actor, appearing in sketches in Frankie Boyle’s Channel4 show Tramadol Nights.

The show comes to the Hat Factory on Friday April 29. Call 01582 878100 to book.
