Players walk the red carpet before a night of Hollywood hits and movie magic

Music can make or break a film whether it’s by heightening tension, creeping us out, giving us something to dance to or helping characters fall in love.

St Andrew’s Players know how important music in movies is and have created an entire show dedicated to the best musical numbers from everyone’s favourite films.

Lights!Camera! Music! is set to be a brilliant night out for all the family as the Players perform this special concert celebrating songs and music from films of the past 70 years.

Jonathan Mills, publicity officer for St Andrew’s Players, said: “We’ve tried to recreate some of the old-fashioned cinema experiences and it should be a great night out for all the family.”

Not only will the show include St Andrew’s Players, but also the talented children of Stage One.

The Players are putting on uniformed usherettes, popcorn, ice-cream and a red carpet to give theatre-goers the full old-school Hollywood experience at St Margaret’s Church at Biscot Mill.

Rather fittingly, St Margaret’s Church has cinema seats because one of the founders of Pinewood Studios, J. Arther Rank, was a Methodist.

Performances are on Friday October 25 and Saturday October 26 at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, over in Dunstable, The Little Theatre is hosting another of its social evenings on November 2.

Dunstable-based classical guitarist Simon Davies will present a sumptuous programme of music from Elizabethan England to the rich textures of South America.

Exploring the vivid colours of the guitar, the evening will include the courtly elegance of John Dowland through to the foot-tapping rhythms and lush harmonies of Venezuelan Antonio Lauro.

A regular guest artist for cruises on Cunard’s fleet of ocean liners, Simon is also regularly featured on BBC Radio 3 and ClassicFM. See him at The Little Theatre at 7.45pm.
