Resplendent in shining armour and astride his noble steed, gallant St George and his attempts to slay the fearsome green dragon will be the highlight of the festival.

Wrest Park has a new dragon, and a different tale to tell during the grand finale battle between St George and his nemesis – visitors are urged not to miss this new story and to come and meet the dragon as it makes its inaugural appearance.

With a packed programme featuring Roman gladiators, jousting tournaments, archery and breathtaking displays of Georgian falconry, there will be plenty for everyone on Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24.

Debbie Houldsworth, English Heritage event manager, said: Whether you love our patron saint, are intrigued by learning more about England’s story, or are simply looking for a great day out for the whole family, there’s plenty going on at St George’s Day Festival this year.

“This showpiece weekend at Wrest Park is the perfect place to see 2,000 years of history in action, with spellbinding shows, explosive displays, hands-on activities and much more, the only challenge will be fitting everything in.”

Nonsense and frivolity will be the order of the day with entertainers including the popular Peterkin the Jester, kids mini battles, storytelling, circus skills, musicians and even hobby horse jousting for all those budding St Georges. Let your little ones becomes Normans for the day as they climb into the replica Norman Crusader ship and get hands on with badge casting and coin minting.
