A right royal event promises a great time

Houghton Regis Carnival is set to be a royally spectacular affair with the popular annual event making a return on Saturday.

Parading the streets will be the town’s very own Carnival Court including a Queen, Princess, Prince, Lady in Waiting and a Knight; all accompanied by a very majestic looking Regis the Lion!

Their royal costumes have been put together by Joanna and Carol from Houghton Regis Craft and Coffee and the Court have all been nominated by their schools to take on these prestigious roles.

Filling the Village Green from 9am will be an array of stalls and activities including, Lee Jackson as Elvis Presley, Birds of Prey shows, Hobby Horse Jousting, Punch and Judy as well as a Circus Skills workshop with Kester the Jester.

The Central Bedfordshire Canine Trust will organising the ‘Pet Dog of the Year Show’. Food stalls comprising of a hog roast, Chinese and Indian cuisine will also be available on the day with a selection of dishes ‘fit for a king’. There will also be tea and cakes served in the Village Green Pavilion by Houghton Regis WI.

The Carnival Procession will begin at 10.30am at Houghton Regis Academy before making its way down to Tithe Farm Road and finishing at the Village Green. The Carnival will then be officially opened by the Town Mayor, Councillor Chris Slough, who said “The Carnival is Houghton Regis at its best. Young and not so young meet up on the Village Green and have fun. What could be better?”

Sarah Gelsthorp, Civic and Events Officer added “The Carnival theme of ‘Royal Houghton’ was created from suggestions made by local schools. There are some exciting displays and entertainment taking place throughout the day and we look forward to a fun event”.
