Aircraft fault on approach to Luton results in large mobilisation of emergency services

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue sent eight appliances and three special vehicles to London Luton Airport (LLA) last night (Wednesday) after they were called to what was described as a 'full emergency'.

Just after 8pm, firefighters attended an incident involving an A321 passenger plane with LLA fire service.

A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "Bedfordshire Fire Control @Beds_FireCtrl 1h At 20:09 we received a call from Luton Airport mobilising us to a 'full emergency'.

"This is where an aircraft has experienced some kind of fault on approach and attracts a very large emergency service presence, as a precaution. Happy to report that the plane landed safely.

"This was an Airbus, with hydraulic failure. The Airbus landed safely and was escorted to a hard standing, checks were completed by the Airport’s Fire Service.

"BFRS sent 2 appliances from Luton, 2 from Dunstable, 1 from Stopsley, 1 water unit from Toddington, a Hasmat Unit, a Rescue Unit from Kempston, Incident Command Unit from Leighton Buzzard and 3 officers.

"This is a normal turn out from us to an incident at Luton Airport."
