Appeal after armed robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses to two crimes in Luton

In the first police are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery which took place in Luton on Sunday.

At around 11.45pm a man was sitting in a car on the forecourt of the Shell fuel garage on Eaton Green Road when he was approached by a man brandishing a gun.

The offender demanded that he hand over his keys and phone, before the victim escaped and ran from the scene.

The offender is thought to have been part of a group of around four men who also made off. They are all described as white, skinny and aged between 18 and 25 years old.

Detective Sergeant Emma Langwith, investigating, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who has any knowledge of this incident, or witnessed a group of men behaving threateningly or unusually near the petrol station.

“This was a terrifying experience for the victim and we are dedicated to finding the people responsible to prevent any further offences.”

In the second, a woman was robbed of her handbag as she walked along Chester Avenue at around 4.30pm on Friday.

She was approached from behind by a man who stole her bag.

The offender is described as mixed race and wearing a grey and black hooded top with black trousers.

PC Simon Day, investigating, said: “This brazen robbery happened in broad daylight so it is possible someone may have either seen the incident itself or the offender before or after it happened, if so, I’d appeal for them to get in contact with us.”
