At around 2.55am, two offenders – one carrying a shotgun - entered the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in London Road and made their way into the back office behind the reception desk.

There, they threatened two members of staff and demanded the password for the safe.

Eventually, the offenders took the safe from the office and the till from the reception area before leaving the hotel.

They made off on what is believed to be a moped from the hotel’s rear car park.

Detective Constable Daniel Matcham, investigating, said: “This was an absolutely horrific incident in which two people were threatened at gunpoint. We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry, and we are keen to speak to the men pictured.

“If you recognise the crash helmet, or the trainers pictured, please contact the police urgently, as we believe these men may have key information about this violent robbery.”
