Beds FA chief exec to quit after ‘racism’ row

THE chief executive of the Bedfordshire Football Association is to quit his role at the end of the year following a racism row.

Peter Brown, who had already resigned from his role on the FA Council - the board which meets to decide key FA policy - will step down on New Years Eve after more than a decade in the job.

Th Beds FA board of directors refused to accept Mr Brown’s resignation until a successor has been found after controversy surrounding an email described by sources close to the FA as ‘racist’ which was allegedly circulated by the chief executive.

Our sister paper the Herald & Post exclusively revealed earlier this month how Mr Brown was sent and forwarded on the email entitled ‘My wee Scottish dog (I love this)’.

Mr Brown, who has served Beds FA for more than four decades, has since publicly apologised describing his actions as “15 seconds of madness”.

A statement from Beds FA chairman Richard Robinson said: “Following recent speculation regarding the position of our Chief Executive it has been decided that Peter Brown will stand down from the role on December 31 2011.

“The Board of Directors declined to accept Mr Brown’s resignation asking him to remain in the post until a successor is suitably in position at the start of January 2012.

“The process of appointing a successor will commence immediately.

“This decision has received the full support of the County FA Council and other partners.”
