Boy critical after getting into difficulties on swimming lesson

A five years old schoolboy is in a critical condition after getting into difficulties during a swimming lesson, the Luton News understands.

The incident occurred during a school trip to Lewsey Swimming Pool, Pastures Way, yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Luton Borough Council said: “The incident at Lewsey Pool happened during a school swimming lesson. The swimming teacher rescued the child from the water as soon as she noticed he’d become unresponsive. CPR was administered while an ambulance was called.

“Both the paramedics and the school staff have praised the swift response and emergency medical assistance given by the Active Luton team.”

The Active Luton pool was closed shortly after.

It was later reopened at 5pm.
