There was some excitement at the Dunstable Mayor’s first charity fundraising event on Saturday.

Around 100 guests had joined Mayor Cllr Peter Hollick at the Priory View independent living complex for a coffee morning when the fire alarm went off.

Staff were quick to evacuate the public areas after a fault triggered the fire alarm system.

Also the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were quick to respond and were at the scene minutes later.

Guests got to look around the luxury later living complex while also raising funds for the Mayor’s chosen charities, Signpost, Dunstable Sea Cadets and Sorted.

Charismatic Colin John Creasey and his Ukie-Toones provided some first class entertainment and he persuaded “The Chain Gang”, consisting of town Mayors from Dunstable Cllr. Peter Hollick, Luton Cllr. Tahir Khan, Houghton Regis Cllr. Chris Slough and Ampthill Cllr. Margaret Wilson to join them to sing “(Is This The Way To) Amarillo”.
