Exciting plans and designs for the proposed independent living scheme in Houghton Regis will go on show for the first time at a public event on Saturday, April 9.

Central Bedfordshire Council plans to redevelop the site to provide specially designed homes for older residents with care and support available on site. The complex will also offer community space and retail opportunities.

The unveiling of the designs will take place at Bedford Square Community Centre in Houghton Regis on Saturday, between 1pm – 3:30pm. There will be short presentations at 1pm and 2:15pm, and a series of exhibition stands for people to look at the design, what it might be like to live there and how the community can use some of the space. Members of the team, architects and Houghton Regis Town Council will be on hand to answer any questions.

The designs follow on from the Community Planning Weekend held last year, where local people shared their thoughts and feedback about the scheme. These were incorporated into the design wherever possible.

Cllr Carole Hegley, Executive Member for Social Care and Housing, said: “The scheme marks a huge investment in Houghton Regis. At its heart will be lovely new homes for our older residents but there are also fantastic opportunities for the whole community.

“We really appreciated the time people took to share their thoughts and views and we hope they’ll see the impact of those on the design. We would love to see you there on the day and hear what you think.”
