Butcher’s sells its last sausage

A. Denman Butchers in Market Square, Toddington, opened three decades ago, but owners Anthony Denman and wife Susan shut up shop for good on Saturday.

Mr Denman had worked in the shop, originally owned by his father, for 20 years.

Mrs Densman said: “We’re closing because we don’t get any local support.

“The numbers have just dwindled in the last few years. They all go to Tesco. We’re getting out while we’re still young enough to do it.”

The shop made its burgers and sausages, including the Toddington Thumper.

One customer, Rachel Clark, said: “I think it’s dreadful. As a community, we’ve already lost the greengrocer’s and the hardware store.

“You can’t get anything as fresh as from a butcher’s. You can taste the difference.

“It will be sorely missed.”
