Caddington shopkeeper banned from selling booze

A CADDINGTON shopkeeper has had his licence to sell alcohol revoked after ignoring numerous warnings from the council about selling restricted items to young people.

Central Beds Council’s licensing sub-committee made the decision on Friday (December 16) after hearing that Adrees Latif was previously warned 12 times by trading standards officers for selling cigarettes and alcohol to underage customers at the Premier Store in Manor Road.

Councillor Brian Spurr, member for sustainable communities services, said: “Selling high strength alcohol to young people is not only illegal, it is immoral. They could have have been caused serious harm.”

The shopkeeper insisted that after each visit from trading standards he reminded his staff not to serve restricted products to under 18-year-olds.

Mr Latif declined to comment further when contacted by the News/Gazette.
