Carers' support course in Luton

People caring for someone with dementia are being offered the chance to learn more about the condition and its effects in a new course in Luton being run by the Alzheimer's Society.

The Carer Information and Support Programme – known as CrISP – aims to help carers understand the sort of challenging behaviours sufferers may display.

Society spokeswoman Connie Sharp said: “Relatives of people with dementia often say it can be really frustrating when someone doesn’t want to change their clothes, have a shower or sleep at night, especially if the person doesn’t accept there is anything wrong with them.

“Understanding how the person is trying to make sense of the world, and how they feel about the losses they are experiencing, can help relatives be more patient and cope better.

“This, in turn, helps the person with dementia be more content.”

The free course has been designed specifically for carers, family members and friends of people who have been living with dementia for some time. It consists of three sessions, each lasting two and a half hours.

> It takes place from 10.30am to 1pm on March 10, 17 and 24. Call 01582 470910 or email [email protected]
