A caring Luton&Dunstable Hospital worker was so overcome by the devastation wreaked on the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan in November, she decided to organise a Bollywood-themed fundraising dinner for its young victims.

Discharge co-ordinator Juthsna Miah said: “My immediate reaction was ‘I need to do something to help.’

“We have so many Filipino nurses whose families and friends were affected and when I watched the news, my heart went out to all of them.”

Juthsna was particularly distressed by the children who were displaced by the disaster.

She said: “My colleagues in discharge planning wanted to do something to support them so we’ve arranged a charity dinner for UNICEF next month with a Bollywood theme for all those bangra fans.”

The gala event includes a sit-down Indian meal, live band, candy cart, henna tattoos, bangra dancing, a raffle and auction.

> The fundraiser takes place from 6pm on Saturday, February 1 at Crescent Hall in Dunstable Road, Luton.

Tickets cost £20 each and should be booked in advance. Call Juthsna on 07940 989190 or Vikas on 07999 267224.
