From studying criminal behaviour to working in fashion, photographer Claire Conybeare has seen a few career changes.
But it was the birth of her son George three years ago that inspired the young mum to do what she loves best – capturing precious moments of children and babies having fun outdoors.
Now Claire, 30, of Spoondell, Dunstable, has been voted the number one family photographer in the UK by industry website Pixoto.
The thrilled mum-of-one said: “I just love photographing children because they’re so innocent and they are just very fun and free, especially outdoors in the summer when it’s warm!
“I think we take it for granted but our local countryside is just gorgeous. Mostly I take pictures outdoors, but I do have a studio in my house for newborns.”
Claire runs her business, Chinchilla Photography, as a freelance photographer. She went through a number of different roles before striking the right note with her career.
She said: “I’ve always loved photography and I was always very interested in the editing side of things. I did all sorts of things beforehand. I have a degree in criminology and I then worked in fashion and then the NHS.”
But the former Manshead School pupil didn’t have her Eureka moment until after George was born, when she started taking snaps and sharing them on social media.
She said: “Through Facebook, I started doing photos for friends and then other people through word of mouth.
“And now I really love what I’m doing. I feel it’s a real privilege to be able to capture the bonds between parents and children and siblings.”
Some of Claire’s portfolio is available to view on the website Pixoto, where it scored the highest of all the family photographers on site. Claire often uses the woodland near her home as a setting as well as Dunstable Downs and Mentmore. For details see www.chinchillaphotography.com.
