A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson, in connection with the fire at The Norman King in Dunstable last week.
The historic town centre pub was razed to the ground in a devastating inferno in the early hours of Wednesday, August 10.
At 12.15am emergency services were called to the fire at the building on the corner of Church Street and Kingsway, which was in the process of being refurbished.
The listed building had a thatched roof and it appears that the thatch caused the flames to spread very quickly, ripping through the building.
Firefighters tackled the blaze with crews spending the majority of Wednesday morning dampening down the building. Considerable damage to the building has meant that detectives from Bedfordshire Police have not yet been able to establish exactly how the fire started, but it is being treated as a suspected arson attack.
