The owner of a popular nightclub in Dunstable appeared in court today to answer charges of threatening behaviour and assault.

Tayyab Mushtaq, 42, is the owner of Unique nightclub on High Street North. He appeared at Luton Magistrates Court to answer two charges over an incident outside his own club.

On the evening of October 8, Mr Mushtaq was alleged to have gotten into a heated confrontation with Club Cookies owner Edd Clayson, after the latter came to inform him that his promotional materials were being dumped.

Mr Mushtaq stands accused of one charge of threatening behaviour towards Mr Clayson, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

After the clash with Mr Clayson, Tayyab Mushtaq then allegedly assaulted a woman outside his nightclub. Police were called and he was arrested shortly after 11pm. Mr Mushtaq was subsequently charged with common assault.

He has also pleaded not guilty to that charge.

Mr Mushtaq will appear again at Luton Magistrates Court for a trial on February 25.
