Footage shows firefighters tackling suspected arson attack in Bury Park

An investigation is underway over a suspected arson attack in a Luton street in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze broke out in at the Family General Store on the corner of Shaftesbury Road and Warwick Road.

A Beds Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Crews were called to a fire in a ground floor convenience store just before 2.30am on Shaftesbury Road, Luton.

"Crews limited fire damage, but it was fully damaged by smoke.

"It is believed to have been deliberate."

The fire and rescue service also stated that inconsiderate parking had caused delays in getting to the scene. Footage of the blaze has been shared (see video).

A Beds Police spokesman added: "We were called at around 2.36am this morning to a report that a convenience store was on fire on the corner of Shaftesbury Road and Warwick Road West, Luton.

"Officers attended the scene and an enquiry is ongoing. If anyone saw anything suspicious, or has information, please call 101 quoting reference 39 of May 21."
