Police issue warning to Luton residents over bogus smoke alarm surveyor

Police are warning Luton residents about a bogus surveyor going door to door asking to check smoke alarms.

A Beds Police spokesman said: "We have received a number of calls from members of the public in Luton reporting that a man in a uniform is knocking at addresses and asking to go in and check their smoke alarm.

"Officers have been in contact with the local authority and it has been confirmed that no visits have been planned.

"Officers are reminding members of the public to ask for ID cards from the caller. If you are not expecting someone to carry out work at your property, do not let them in."
