Owners of a wholesale warehouse in Dunstable were left reeling after £250,000 worth of clothing was stolen in a major heist last week.
Nationwide Auctions Ltd based at Woodside Industrial Estate, was burgled at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, January 6 – just minutes after workers left the warehouse.
Director David McLean said the firm discovered the theft after returning to the building on Monday and checking CCTV.
He said: “The majority of stuff taken was high street clothing. It was about 1,000 Kardashian dresses, Bhs babywear and a large quantity of Bhs clothing.
“We still have a lot of stock here but it was certainly a good chunk of the value.
“They also stole a Cyclone air compressor worth £18,000.”
Mr McLean said Bedfordshire Police was now stepping up its efforts to find those responsible but an officer was not assigned to the case until two days after it was reported.
Mr McLean said: “The initial response has been quite slow, considering it took two days to get through to CID.
“It’s just been very difficult.”
Mr McLean added that the remaining stock continues to be sold wholesale from the warehouse, following their usual practice.
A Beds Police spokesman insisted the force was taking the theft seriously.
He said: “We’re just trying to establish whether there is CCTV footage in any of the surrounding buildings.
“I can also confirm that the case has been assigned to an officer today (Wednesday, January 13).
“Because of what has been stolen, we would urge anyone who has been approached to buy these items – or indeed, who has witnessed anything suspicious – to contact us.”
