But the 53-year-old mother-of-one from Halleys Way in Houghton Regis has already signed up to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Dunstable Downs on Sunday, May 22.

She said: “I did it last year in memory of my brother-in-law who passed away from a brain tumour.

“But this year I feel even more passionate about it.

“I’m very lucky because I was fit before the diagnosis and my cancer was a moderate grade. And I want to let other women know how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

Denise has signed up as a media volunteer for the charity and has already given several talks about her personal experience.

She also shared her story on Facebook to coincide with World Cancer Day and was overwhelmed by the feedback.

Denise said: “The messages of good luck and support were unbelievable and I felt I was not alone in this fight against cancer.”
