Sponsors, organisers and judges of the Dunstable and Houghton Regis Business and Community Awards have handed over a £700 donation to the local foodbank.
The donation to Dunstable Foodbank of a car load of food weighing 371.45 kg provided 884 meals for local families in need over Christmas.
Awards organiser Vicki Stonham, of Your Marketing Needs, said: “Everyone needs a little help every now and again and at Christmas time we are so pleased to be able to make a difference to local families.
“The £700 was raised by the raffle at this year’s awards. When loaded up in my car, it all put my suspension under severe strain!”
The food included tinned and dried products. People in need are given vouchers by social services and family doctors enabling them to receive food packages,
Mike Pittam, operations manager at the Dunstable Foodbank, said: “It is a particularly busy time of the year for the foodbank as people struggle to make ends meet. Christmas comes on top of meeting continuing needs and it’s a tough time for a large number of local families.”
