A woman from Houghton Regis had the wedding she always dreamed of last week, with her schoolfriends as bridesmaids ... all 12 of them!
For Karen O’Brien, 55, having her second wedding at Dunstable Priory was about having the perfect day with Mr Right, Vinny Walker, 52.
Mum-of-four Karen had stayed close with her 12 best friends at Houghton Regis Upper School for over 40 years – and was determined to have them there for her big day.
She said: “I’m having a big wedding because I’ve never had that. I always wanted my best friends at school to be there.
“I got married to my first husband when I was 21 and that was very budgeted. It’s taken me a while, but I’m having the day I always wanted.”
Retired special needs teacher Karen was given away by her sons, and her daughter was also a bridesmaid.
She has been with Vinny for three and a half years. Both grew up in Houghton Regis and knew each other as children. The couple now live in Tilsworth.
Schoolfriend Georgia Louchiey was thrilled to be asked to take part in the couple’s nuptials on Saturday, July 8.
She said: “I’m overwhelmed, we’ve all got together so much for the hen night and dress rehearsals and it’s been beautiful.
“A lot of us have moved out the area, but it doesn’t matter how long goes by – it feels like we saw each other only yesterday when we catch up.”
