A motoring enthusiast from Dunstable has picked up the keys to one of only 40 cars of its kind to be sold in the UK.
A delighted Tony Naughton was joined by his eight-year-old grandson Connor Naughton, also from Dunstable, when he collected his new Mitsubishi Special Anniversary Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 from Anthony Betts Mitsubishi in Hemel Hempstead.
Just 40 of the vehicles, which cost £50,000 each, have been made to mark the 40th anniversary of Mitsubishi’s operations in the UK this year. Available only in white, all of them sold out within an hour of going on sale earlier this year.
It’s the third Evo that the 58-year-old electrical engineer has owned, and he said: “I’ve been looking forward to this since February, so it’s nice to be here today to get my hands on it.”
Asked why he loves the Evo so much, he said: ”It’s a driver’s car. Rather than just going from A to B, you can go from A to B with a whacking great big grin on your face. It’s just a fun car to drive and it holds the road so well. It’s so safe.”
With 440bhp output from its 2.0-litre turbo-charged four-cylinder engine, the special edition Evo is the most powerful car Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has ever sold.
Jason Baxter, new car sales manager at the dealership, said: “I’m really pleased for Mr Naughton. He’s a real enthusiast and was obviously very excited. His grandson was equally excited, so it was nice for him, too.
“I’m delighted Mr Naughton was lucky enough to receive this fantastic new limited edition Evo. He is a great ambassador for the Mitsubishi brand, having had two Evos before now.
“Everyone here at the dealership was excited when Mitsubishi Motors announced that, as part of the celebrations of being 40 years in the UK, we would be producing 40 special edition Evo Xs. The Lancer Evolution has always been a special car for Mitsubishi and this edition is no exception. It was a ‘must-have’ for all die-hard Evolution fans and we’re delighted to have sold one of them.”
