Dunstable Town Centre manager Clare Brett on August plans for the town

The Dunstable Joint Committee has been promoting a series of events in AshtonSquare on the first Saturday of each month, and the next event on August 6 is aptly themed HOLIDAY!

The aim of the programme is to support town centre businesses and the event will feature new stalls, refreshments, children’s entertainment and more, between 10 am and 3 pm.

An art competition for all budding Hockneys is also being launched, to sketch town centre landmarks or scenes. Judging will be at 3 pm on the day and the winner will feature on the Town Mayor’s Christmas card! My fingers are crossed for fine weather, but as it is British summertime, artists might want to prepare in advance!

Not likely to create a masterpiece, but maybe you have one hidden in your attic? Then visit the Methodist Church for a free valuation. If you value a great vintage you really will be in for a treat, as the MG Owners Club will be displaying their vehicles on The Square as well.

If you are still searching for an incentive to visit, how about chocolate?

Remember Betty Boop? A cut out of the Queen of cartoons is in selected shops, giving children plenty of time to take part in this town centre trail. Forms are available from Priory House and Grove House and need to be returned to the market on August 6, to claim the prize.

Please come out and support the event and let’s have a great day!
