Good news for Dunstable’s independent businesses!

Central Bedfordshire Council has launched a £1 million capital fund to deliver a high street improvement scheme.

The aim is to revitalise market towns across Central Bedfordshire (of which our very own Dunstable is one), through improvements to shop fronts and tackling vacant retail units. So businesses, if you are thinking about a refurb, this could be the opportunity for you!

The initiative offers grants to high street businesses and landlords to make improvements to their premises to create attractive shop frontages with the purpose of attracting more visitors and shoppers onto the high street.

Businesses can apply for a capital improvement grant of up to £20,000 and in exceptional cases up to £50,000, if they meet the criteria, such as being an independent rather than a chain store.

The grant will fund up to 60 per cent of the required works and will include design/build costs and any planning fees.

The scheme will be delivered between September 2016 and March 2018 in three rounds, with the following deadlines:

1. Thursday, 1 September 2016 2. Tuesday, 1 November 2016 3. Wednesday, 1 February 2017

Don’t miss out on this chance to improve your shop front and our high street!
