Students from Houghton Regis University Technical College were jumping with joy after learning they were joining the best schools in the UK at Birmingham’s Skills Show.

They were invited by their sponsor, award-winning Bedford College, and saw first-hand the very latest technological advances in education and engineering.

Bedford College was exhibiting at Aerospace Engineering’s ‘have a go’ area and had a stand demonstrating electrical installation skills as well as being involved in showcasing IT skills.

It has established links with World Skills activities and is one of the elite premier colleges associated with the Skills Show.

UTC pupils, who live across Central Bedfordshire, were at the show last week.

They had exclusive access to major employers at an evening event where TV entrepreneur and ‘Dragon’ Theo Paphitis talked to business leaders.

Bedford College was invited by the DfE to become a sponsor of UTC Central Beds earlier in the year – to take effect officially from September. In fact the team worked over the summer holidays to make the UTC a better place for pupils to return to this academic year.

UTC headteacher Lesley Glover said: “Links with Bedford College have opened doors across the county and the UK for us.”

> Parents and pupils wanting to learn more about UTC are invited to an open evening at the Houghton Regis campus on Tuesday (November 25) between 6pm and 8.30pm.
