The fourth Houghton Regis May Fayre will be taking place from 12- 4pm on the Village Green on Saturday and there will be a whole afternoon of entertainment, with a special addition to the scenery.
Enthused by photographs loaned to the Town Council from the Pat Lovering Collection / HRHS Archives, the staging area for the day has a 1950s inspired backdrop, created by Houghton Regis Craft and Coffee.
Sarah Gelsthorp Civic and Events Officer, said: “The photographs were the inspiration behind the design of the staging and Houghton Regis Craft and Coffee has created a special backdrop which will be reminiscent of the May Fayre from the 1950s.
“The May Fayre is a traditional event, which used to take place in the town and we are looking forward to seeing the Maypole on the Green once more”.
The staging area will be the setting for the Crowning of the May Queen and she will then preside over the events of the day with her two attendants, who have all been nominated from Hawthorn Park Community Primary School.
The event includes three sessions of traditional Maypole Dancing, led by professional Maypole teacher and musician Mike Ruff, two sessions from popular local group Last of the Summer Ukuleles, music from a folk band ‘Beats Working’ and local duo David Gibbons and Richard Chatterley.
There will also be a special performance from the Art Town Starters Group and a Magic Show taking place from 2-3pm.
The Village Green will also play host to a variety of stalls including homemade sweets and fudge, candy floss and popcorn, face painting, craft items and local heritage. Houghton Regis Helpers will also be serving teas and coffees from the Village Green Pavilion.
