Roads have reopened after flooding brought Dunstable town centre to a standstill this afternoon.

The sudden downpour caused some vehicles to be stuck in water on the town’s streets.

Earlier, Bedfordshire Police stated they were unable to access the town centre except in life-threatening emergencies.

Now, the force says the situation has cleared. A spokesman said: “Flood water has now reduced in Dunstable.

“Flash floods in the town had led to some roads becoming inaccessible, however, the water has now cleared away. Roads have re-opened and normal service has resumed for the force.

“Police are continuing to advise motorists to take extra caution while heavy rain and surface water remains across the county, keeping further distance between the vehicle in front and reducing speed.”
