Fitness classes for new mothers

PREGNANT women and new mums in South Beds will be able to attend special fitness classes.

FitBack and Bumps sessions aim to teach women about exercises that can be done during and after pregnancy, and there will also be an opportunity to learn methods which could help strengthen their core muscles and pelvic floor which may help prevent incontinence.

FitBack and Bumps instructor Jo Dyson said: “There is very little on offer in this area in the way of supervised exercise and these classes are a great way for women to stay healthy during and after pregnancy.

“Only 15% of mums-to-be undertake the recommended amount of exercise as they are often confused about what is safe and are scared of harming their baby. FitBack and Bumps instructors are Chartered Physiotherapists meaning we are in a fantastic position to help women as we understand the mechanics of back and pelvic pain and the changes a woman’s body goes through during pregnancy.”

The sessions will be taking place at All Saints Church Hall, Tilsworth, Dunstable, and are due to run every Tuesday at 6pm-7pm from July 3 to 24. Exercises will be taught on a gym ball. For more information visit www.fitbackandbumps.co.uk.
