Get on your marks to raise NICU cash

Raising vital funds for the Luton & Dunstable Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), the race takes place at Vauxhall Recreation Club on Sunday October 7.

Last year’s event raised a massive £12,000, meaning extra life-saving equipment could be bought to help the 900 treated by the unit every year.

L&D medical director Dr Mark Patten, who took part in last year’s race, said: “The hospital were delighted and amazed by the support drummed up locally for On Your Marks last year.

“We have a very skilled team of NICU staff who provide the best possible care to hundreds of premature and sick babies each year.

“However the unit itself and the equipment the babies require are in constant need of updating and improving.

“I’m sure everyone locally knows of a family who have had a baby in NICU so why not sign up and take part in On Your Marks 2012 and help us raise more essential funds for the NICU appeal.”
