An opportunity to redevelop the site of the former Co-Op store in Houghton Regis town centre will be discussed with the public at a community planning event this Friday and Saturday.
Central Bedfordshire Council plans to redevelop the site to provide a new Independent Living scheme, providing specially designed homes for older residents with care and support available on site.
The complex will also offer community space and retail opportunities and the council wants help from the community in shaping its plans.
Set for 27 and 28 November, the community planning weekend is an opportunity to contribute to how the plans develop and share local knowledge.
This will be done through workshops, walkabouts on the site and hands-on planning groups, as well as an exhibition explaining the background of the site.
Residents can drop in to any of the sessions at Bedford Square Community Centre and stay for as long as they are able.
Team members will be able to answer questions. The sessions run from 2pm – 7pm, Friday 27 November and 9.15am – 2pm, Saturday 28 November.
Cllr Carole Hegley, Executive Member for Social Care and Housing, said: “The scheme marks a huge investment in Houghton Regis of some £30m.
“At its heart will be lovely new homes for our older residents but there are also fantastic opportunities for the whole community, which is why it is so important to us that local people get involved.”
