Hotel plans for Georgian pile

PLANS to develop a sprawling Georgian home in Toddington into a hotel and spa have been lodged with Central Bedfordshire Council.

Toddington Park House, off Park Road, is currently a private residence, but could become a 36-bedroom hotel if a planning application is approved.

Project agents Derek Walker Associates have been working with planning and conservation officers on the redevelopment of the Grade II listed property, which is believed to date from the 1830s.

The plans state that the business would be a ‘high-end country house hotel, conference venue and spa’, with a restaurant able to accommodate 110 diners.

There would be further dining, conference and function facilities in the main house, stable block and barn.

The spa aspect of the hotel would see a gym, pool, steam room, sauna and relaxation area, and 10 treatment rooms.

There is also a 1.5 acre lake on the site, fully stocked with trout, for anglers to enjoy.

The plans also include the restoration of a Victorian ice house on the 11-acre site, which would be used as a bar.

Sixty-five full-time and 50 part-time or casual jobs are expected to be created should the project get the go-ahead.
